To regulate pilgrim entry and reduce the presence of unauthorised individuals in Makkah, the Saudi authorities have introduced a comprehensive digital platform known as Nusuk.
The Nusuk system has been developed to ensure that all aspects of Hajj and Umrah are conducted in strict accordance with official regulations. It comprises both a dedicated mobile application and a mandatory official pass. In preparation for the upcoming Hajj season (1446 AH), the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has expanded the use of the Nusuk platform and implemented more stringent regulatory measures.
Pilgrims will not be permitted to perform Hajj in 1446 AH unless they have obtained prior authorisation through the Nusuk system. The platform is designed to ensure the safety, security, and orderly management of pilgrims arriving in the Kingdom from around the world.
Furthermore, to combat fraudulent practices and protect pilgrims from exploitation, the Saudi government has imposed a fine of 20,000 Saudi riyals (equivalent to over 83,000 MVR) on those attempting to undertake the pilgrimage without official approval via Nusuk.
To streamline identification and access, the Ministry issues a Nusuk card to each registered pilgrim. This official printed pass must be carried at all times throughout the pilgrimage. It grants access to essential services and locations for the performance of Hajj rituals and facilitates movement between sites.
All pilgrims are therefore required to present their Nusuk card when travelling from one location to another during Hajj. This measure ensures efficient organisation and helps prevent disruptions in service provision.
Accordingly, the Hajj Corporation strongly advises all Maldivian pilgrims to wear their Nusuk cards at all times. This requirement is vital to ensure that no pilgrim misses the opportunity to complete their pilgrimage due to non-compliance with official procedures.
