Dr Abdul Latheef Mohamed, the State Minister of Education, participated in the 3rd UNESCO World Open Educational Resources (OER) Congress, held from 19–20 November 2024 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Organised by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and hosted by the Mohammed Bin Rashid Knowledge Foundation (MBRF), the event convened global education leaders under the theme “Digital Public Goods: Open Solutions and AI for Inclusive Access to Knowledge.”

The two-day event is hosted over 500 participants from around the world, including ministers, scholars, and private sector representatives. The congress explored how international collaboration, open solutions, and artificial intelligence (AI) can transform education systems and foster inclusive, equitable learning opportunities for all.

Central to the discussions was the pivotal role of openly licensed educational materials and AI technologies in overcoming barriers to learning. A highlight of the event was the ministerial panel discussion on the future of open licensing, where Dr Abdul Latheef joined policymakers and thought leaders to share strategies for promoting the adoption of OER.

The event’s visuals showcased a packed auditorium filled with delegates, reflecting the significance of this global platform.

Dr Abdul Latheef's participation reaffirmed the Ministry of Education's commitment to driving forward innovative approaches that bridge gaps in access to knowledge and transform global education systems.
