Parliament has dismissed Elections Commission's Vice President Ali Nashath and Member Mohamed Asif, while voting against the dismissal of Dr Mohamed Zahir.

Nashath's dismissal was supported by 69 members, whilst 68 voted to dismiss Asif. Although the Parliament's Committee on Independent Institutions initially passed the dismissal of all three members, during the floor vote, 70 members voted against Dr Zahir's dismissal, allowing him to retain his position.

The members were accused of exploiting the election database during the Presidential election last year and profiting from its unauthorised sale.
