The Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has installed a new Reverse Osmosis (RO) plant with a capacity to produce 1,000 tonnes of water per day in Malé.
In a post shared on X, MWSC stated that the new plant, located at the Malé Operations Centre, was added to enhance water production in the Greater Malé region.
With this installation, MWSC’s total daily water production capacity has increased to 28,000 tonnes, which the company says will help ensure a steady and safe supply of water to residents.
MWSC added that the new addition is part of broader efforts to meet the rising water demand in the Greater Malé area, driven by urban expansion and population growth.
To ensure uninterrupted water supply for residents in the region, MWSC has established two additional plants in Malé, in addition to the one at the Malé Operations Centre.
The Government is actively working to improve and expand the water supply network in the region. MWSC is currently constructing additional water storage tanks and installing new water treatment plants in both Malé and Hulhumalé.
MWSC plans to increase water production capacity by 26 per cent and water storage capacity by 28 per cent by the end of this year.
