Minister outlines vision for a secure and inclusive society

The Minister for Social and Family Development, Dr Aishath Shiham, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a safe and secure environment for all citizens.

She emphasised the importance of fostering a compassionate society where everyone plays an active role.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of a seminar on civil society, organised by the Family Protection Authority, Minister Dr Aishath Shiham outlined the ministry’s goals of safeguarding vulnerable groups, including women, children, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. She stressed that these efforts aim to enhance family security and promote social harmony.

Highlighting initiatives to combat domestic violence, the Minister drew attention to programmes such as Ibama, which empowers vulnerable families, and Haalu Kihineh?, a nationwide outreach effort that connects with residents across all inhabited islands of Maldives.

Minister Dr Aishath Shiham also announced the establishment of a 24-hour helpline designed to facilitate the reporting of domestic violence cases, demonstrating the government’s dedication to addressing such issues proactively.

She concluded her address by calling for collective efforts to build a harmonious and compassionate society, expressing her hope that these initiatives will instil pride in future generations.
