The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced the appointment of G. Balasubramanian as the new High Commissioner of India to the Maldives.

Currently serving as the High Commissioner of India to Nigeria, Balasubramanian will succeed Munu Mahawar, who has held the post since November 2021.

Balasubramanian brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served in key diplomatic missions in Moscow, Washington DC, and Bangkok. His previous roles include Deputy Chief of Mission and India’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

This leadership change signals a continued commitment to strengthening India-Maldives relations. The Maldives remains a vital partner for India in the region, with collaborations spanning defence, trade, and cultural exchange.
