A new visitation facility for prisoners' families at Hulhumalé Prison was officially opened yesterday.

The facility was inaugurated by the MP for Kelaa constituency, Abdulla Shareef.

The opening ceremony was attended by Commissioner of Prisons Hassan Zareer, Deputy Commissioner of Prisons Ibrahim Mohammed Didi, Director of Hulhumalé Prisons, Deputy Superintendent of Prisons Ahmed Jadulla, along with senior management and officers of Hulhumalé Prison.

The Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) stated that the newly developed facility will allow up to three prisoners at a time to meet with their families.

In addition to the visitation facility, a children’s corner has been set up for kids accompanying their families. A waiting room adjacent to the visitation area has also been established, providing a space for family visitors and others who come to the prison for various purposes.

The MCS has stated that the establishment of the new visitation facility will increase the family meetings at the Hulhumalé Prison.
