Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has announced a plan to construct a 25-storey building on the site of its existing port complex, with work slated to commence next year.

The announcement was made by MPL CEO Mohamed Wajeeh Ibrahim during an appearance on PSM News’ programme, Hafthaa 52. According to Wajeeh, the high-rise building will feature luxury apartments and commercial spaces, and it will also include multiple floors dedicated to parking.

“With this initiative, MPL will become the highest revenue earner among the existing companies in the country. We can achieve this if we want to,” he stated.

In addition to the skyscraper project, Wajeeh outlined several other priority initiatives for the upcoming year. Notably, efforts will be made to relocate the Malé Commercial Port to Thilafushi.

Furthermore, plans are in place to launch maritime activities in Laamu atoll and to begin development work on the Addu and Kulhudhuffushi city ports.
