Miladhoo Island Council has urged President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to prioritise road development on the island, describing it as one of the community’s most pressing infrastructure needs.
The appeal was made during the President’s visit to Miladhoo, where he met with the Island Council, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to review ongoing development projects and hear the concerns of the community
The meeting took place at Miladhoo Hidhaayaa School. During the discussion, council members emphasised that the island’s roads remain in poor condition, adversely affecting daily life and access to essential services. They also highlighted that the Council is currently operating from a rented facility and called on the Government to expedite the construction of a dedicated council office. The timely completion of several pending development projects was further identified as a key priority for the community.
Other concerns raised by the council included the need for additional trained nurses at the island’s Health Centre to enhance healthcare services. The council also requested support for the children's park, including the provision of materials to enhance park facilities for local families.
Environmental and social challenges were also brought to the President’s attention. Council members emphasised the importance of coastal protection and called for urgent action to build revetments. They also pointed to the growing housing shortage on the island and appealed for a long-term solution to the issue.
President Dr Muizzu assured Council members that the concerns raised would be given due consideration.
The President was joined by several members of the cabinet and heads of government institutions, who provided updates on ongoing projects.
