A groundbreaking ceremony was held today to mark the start of construction of a new police station in N. Miladhoo.

The ceremony took place during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island as part of his tour of inhabited islands in Noonu Atoll. Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan officiated the event.

Also present were the President of Miladhoo Island Council, Fenaka Corporation Managing Director Mohamed Najah, whose company has been contracted for the project, and Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen.

Establishing police stations on all inhabited islands is a core objective of the current Administration. To achieve this, the Government has partnered with state-owned enterprises to build police facilities on 75 islands.

Under the initiative, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with projects on 15 islands, the Road Development Corporation (RDC) on 20 islands, and Fenaka on 40 islands, including Miladhoo. MTCC is also constructing a police station in Maafaru.

According to the Ministry of Homeland Security, the project supports the Government’s decentralisation policy, which seeks to provide dedicated police buildings on all inhabited islands, excluding those earmarked for population relocation.

Once completed, around two-thirds of the Maldives’ inhabited islands will have modern police centres. The Ministry said the initiative is expected to reduce recurrent expenditure and improve the reach and efficiency of police services.
