The N. Magoodhoo Island Council has called for accelerated efforts to address long-standing infrastructure issues during a meeting with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, highlighting community concerns over stalled and incomplete development works.
Held at Magoodhoo School, the session brought together council members, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and heads of local institutions. Representatives raised key concerns, including worsening coastal erosion, the urgent need to expand classroom facilities and delays in water and sewerage installations.
Also discussed were requests for improvements to recreational infrastructure, including the establishment of a designated swimming area and a football ground to support youth wellbeing and engagement.
Council members expressed concern over the pace of previously announced initiatives, urging President Dr Muizzu to ensure visible progress in the coming months. In particular, they highlighted the incomplete upgrade of the health centre as a matter requiring urgent attention.
The President acknowledged the issues raised and said they would be given priority in the Government’s development agenda. Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from state-owned enterprises also provided updates on current and planned works on the island.
