Special Envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister and Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ikuina Akiko, is set to visit the Maldives from 25 to 27 July.
The visit coincides with the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day celebrations and aims to strengthen diplomatic and development cooperation between the two countries.
During her visit, the Special Envoy is scheduled to meet with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel, and attend official events commemorating the 60th anniversary.
A key highlight will be the signing of an Exchange of Notes for the Project for Disaster Resilience Enhancement in Malé Island, a Japanese-funded initiative implemented by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
The Special Envoy will also meet members of the Japanese community in the Maldives and visit the Tetrapod Monument, a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two nations.
The visit reflects Japan’s commitment to deepening bilateral ties and promoting a Free and Open Indo-Pacific based on the rule of law.
