President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has ratified two key legislative amendments this week. The Second Amendment to the Water and Sewerage Act aims to ensure all inhabited islands have reliable water access by 2027, introducing licensing requirements, penalties for misuse, and provisions for water testing laboratories, while also mandating support for local councils in service delivery.The First Amendment to the Attorney General’s Office Act strengthens the responsibilities and staffing framework of the office, clarifies the scope of legal counsel, and revises salary and recruitment regulations, as part of broader reforms to modernise the Attorney General’s Office. Both amendments have now been published in the Government Gazette and are in force.
