Haa Dhaalu Kurin'bi Council has called on the Government to expedite the completion of critical infrastructure projects on the island, particularly the long-awaited water and sewerage network.

During President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit, the President met with Council members, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and heads of local institutions to hear community priorities. At the meeting, the Council stressed that residents continue to face significant challenges due to the incomplete water and sewerage works.

Council representatives also highlighted the need for housing developments, adjustments to the harbour expansion project, and improvements to sports facilities. They noted that the football stadium should be completed without further delay and that the futsal pitch requires turfing. In addition, they requested the establishment of a waste management centre to address mounting environmental concerns.

Institutions on the island raised further concerns, including the shortage of classrooms at the local school and recurring difficulties in obtaining vaccines at the health centre. They also underlined the need for a new powerhouse and generator to ensure a reliable electricity supply, as well as the construction of a dedicated Fenaka office building.

In response, President Muizzu assured the Council that the Government would give due consideration to their concerns and work towards practical solutions. He also shared updates on ongoing projects and reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing community needs. The meeting was attended by Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from State-Owned Enterprises.
