President Dr Mohamed Muizzu launched several development initiatives in Haa Dhaalu Kumundhoo today, during the final stop of his tour of the Atoll.

Among the projects, the President officially opened a new BML ATM service, providing round-the-clock cash deposits and withdrawals for both individuals and businesses, along with bill payment and transfer facilities. This ATM is part of the Government’s joint project with BML to introduce such services across all Maldivian islands. Following the inauguration, the President presented a commemorative bank card to the Kumundhoo Island Council.

Continuing efforts to expand community facilities, the ground was broken for the Fitness and Recreation Centre in the island by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, accompanied by MACL CEO and Managing Director Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, and the President of the Kumundhoo Council. The Government has pledged to establish similar centres on all inhabited islands of the Maldives by the end of next year. President Dr Muizzu noted that while ongoing work on the island’s football grounds continue, additional facilities, including a futsal pitch and a volleyball court, are also planned.

Development efforts in Kumundhoo also include the start of construction for the extension of the local police station and health centre. The new police station building was inaugurated by Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan, accompanied by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen, the President of the Kumundhoo Council, and the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation. These projects are part of the Government’s broader plan to expand police services nationwide, with new stations being built and handed over to state-run companies.

For the health sector, Minister of State for Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim signed an agreement on behalf of the Ministry of Health with MTCC, represented by its Managing Director, DCP (Retd) Ahmed Saudhee, to commence the expansion of the island’s health centre.

Addressing the residents in Kumundhoo, President Dr Muizzu assured the residents that the island's harbour will be relocated to a site agreed upon by residents, and construction will commence in two months. This, he added, will provide a sustainable solution to the challenges faced by the community. A dedicated beach area will be developed alongside the harbour relocation project, the President revealed.

Agreements were also signed for Kumundhoo road development and construction of a multi-purpose hall for Kumundhoo School. The latter will also include expansion of space and resources at the school. The President also officially inaugurated the island’s water and sewerage network project during the visit.
