Parliament has approved the appointment of three members to the Civil Service Commission (CSC) following a vote conducted on Wednesday at a parliamentary sitting held outside the regular session.

Each nominee was considered individually. Mohamed Nasih was endorsed with 52 votes in favour, while four members opposed his appointment. Dr Hussain Faiz received the backing of 54 lawmakers, and Dr Dheeba Moosa secured the strongest support, with 60 votes in favour of her nomination.

The nominations were submitted to Parliament by the President pursuant to Article 180(b) of the Constitution of the Maldives and Section 13 of the Civil Service Act. The matter was reviewed by Parliament’s Committee on Independent Institutions, which assessed all six nominees using the same criteria applied to candidates for independent bodies and autonomous posts.

According to the committee’s findings, three nominees surpassed the required threshold of 75 per cent. These were Mohamed Nasih, Dr Dheeba Moosa and Dr Hussain Faiz, who were then recommended to Parliament for approval.
