The Maldives has been nominated for two major categories at the World Travel Awards 2025, securing a place among the top contenders for World’s Leading Destination and World’s Leading Green Destination.

The nominations follow the Maldives’ consecutive wins as World’s Leading Destination over the past five years, a streak that has reinforced its standing as one of the most prominent names in global tourism. 

According to the Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC), this year’s additional nomination for World’s Leading Green Destination highlights the country’s growing recognition for sustainable tourism practices and environmental conservation efforts.

The World Travel Awards, established in 1993, are widely considered one of the highest honours in the international tourism and hospitality industry. Voting for the 2025 awards will take place from 6 to 26 October, with results to be announced later this year.

Industry observers note that the Maldives’ consistent presence among top global destinations reflects the resilience and ongoing evolution of its tourism sector, which remains a cornerstone of the national economy.
