Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer has stated that the 2026 State Budget is being formulated based on State revenue to ensure alignment between spending and income.

In an interview with state media, Minister Zameer said the budget preparation process is now in its final stages and will be presented to the Parliament by the end of this month. He noted that following the completion of the first draft, the Government is working to incorporate projects scheduled for implementation next year.

The Minister explained that the upcoming budget will include development projects announced by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu during his visits to various atolls. He added that the budget formulation process takes into account available State revenue, while also incorporating projects financed through contractor arrangements, supplier credit, grants, and loans from multilateral agencies and other foreign partners.

According to the Public Finance Act, the State Budget for the coming year must be submitted to Parliament at least two months before the end of the current year.
