Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has departed for Doha, Qatar, to attend the Second World Summit for Social Development (WSSD2), held under the auspices of the United Nations General Assembly.
The high-level summit, scheduled to take place from 4–6 November 2025, will bring together global leaders and policymakers to discuss advancing social development, eradicating poverty, promoting productive employment, and strengthening social inclusion in line with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Vice President will represent the Maldives at the opening ceremony and is scheduled to deliver a statement during the plenary sessions, highlighting the country’s ongoing efforts and priorities in achieving equitable and inclusive social progress.
The first World Summit for Social Development was held in Copenhagen, Denmark, in 1995, making this year’s Doha meeting the first such gathering in three decades, aimed at reaffirming global commitment to social justice and sustainable development.
