The Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, in collaboration with local councils, has begun preparations for next year’s Roadha Hadhiyaa programme ahead of Ramadan.

According to the Ministry, councils across the country have started compiling lists of eligible households to receive the annual Ramadan assistance. The lists must be finalised and submitted to the Ministry by 20 November.

The Roadha Hadhiyaa is distributed based on the number of households, with each household required to register separately if multiple families reside under the same roof. Some councils have announced that registration will take place on dates that will be announced locally.

While the Government has not yet revealed what will be distributed as next year’s Roadha Hadhiyaa, the programme has continued annually over the past two years. This year, 111,231 cases of canned tuna were distributed nationwide, with each household receiving 48 cans at a total cost of MVR 81 million.

Last year, the Government distributed flour and rice grains as part of the programme, reaching around 82,000 households with 1.6 million packets of staple food items.
