Swiss airline Edelweiss Air has commenced services from Velana International Airport’s (VIA) new Terminal 1 on 4 November 2025, coinciding with the airline’s 25th anniversary of operations to the Maldives. A ceremony celebrating the occasion was attended by MACL CEO Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Edelweiss Air representatives, and senior airport officials. Passengers on the inaugural flights were greeted with gifts and cultural performances, as Edelweiss became the 22nd airline to operate from the new Terminal 1.
