The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has said its annual ‘Eh gein aneh geyah’ door-to-door donation campaign and has received a strong response from the public this year.
The campaign is aimed at encouraging households to refurbish and sort through items before Ramadan and donate reusable furniture and household goods to individuals and families in need. HDC said the initiative supports the redistribution of items that remain in good condition rather than being discarded.
Refurbishing homes and replacing furniture ahead of Ramadan is a common practice among Maldivian households, with HDC noting that many usable items are often disposed of during this period. The campaign seeks to divert such items from waste streams by facilitating collection and redistribution.
HDC said the campaign is conducted annually in the lead-up to Ramadan, with this year’s programme focused specifically on the collection of furniture and household electronics from homes in Hulhumalé.
Under the programme, HDC will collect donated items directly from households and deliver them to individuals in need. The corporation said items that remain unclaimed after the campaign deadline will be distributed following the identification of beneficiaries.
Members of the public wishing to donate items or obtain further information can contact HDC via its hotline on 7412111.
