The nisab, or minimum wealth threshold for Zakat al-Mal in the Maldives, has been revised to MVR 21,836.50, effective from 21 April 2026.

The updated threshold marks an increase of 11.8 per cent from the previous nisab of MVR 19,527.90 set in December. The revision reflects changes in global silver prices, with the zakat benchmark currently calculated at MVR 595 per 36.70 grams of silver.

Zakat al-Mal, one of the five pillars of Islam, requires eligible Muslims to contribute a portion of their accumulated wealth each year to those entitled to receive it. Individuals whose wealth meets or exceeds the nisab, and remains above that level for a full lunar year, are required to pay 2.5 per cent of their wealth annually as zakat.
