Minister of Cities, Administrative Areas and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has stated that the recent referendum in Addu City reflects President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to empowering citizens. Speaking to PSM News, the Minister said the Government’s policy is to act in line with the people’s wishes, citing the decision to hold a vote in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo as an example of this approach. He added that the Government’s efforts to empower communities have strengthened public support. In the referendum, the majority of residents in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo voted in favour of establishing separate councils for each island.
