President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has toured Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa as part of his visit to Addu Atoll on Wednesday.

The resort, which has been closed since March 2020 following the COVID-19 pandemic, is expected to reopen this year.

First opened in 2009, Shangri-La Villingili Resort & Spa was a major contributor to Addu’s economy before its closure, employing over 500 staff and playing a key role in boosting connectivity through Gan International Airport.

Speaking to residents of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, President Dr Muizzu said the resort’s reopening is the result of extensive efforts and will create new employment opportunities for the youth of Addu Atoll.
