First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has inaugurated the Vara Expo 2025 – the national skills and career exhibition aimed at enhancing Maldivian participation in the labour market and equipping citizens with essential skills for the evolving workforce.
Organised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development, the expo aligns with the Government’s policy to empower youth, strengthen national capabilities and promote digital innovation in employment and education.
Held at Hulhumalé Central Park from 6 to 8 November, the event is the first nationwide skills and career exhibition of its kind in the Maldives. During the opening ceremony, the First Lady launched a publication detailing the achievements of the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development before touring the exhibition stalls.
According to the Ministry, the Vara Expo is structured into three main zones: the Career Zone, the Education Provider Zone, and the Skills Experience Zone. The Career Zone features job booths and on-site interview areas, offering direct engagement between employers and jobseekers. The Education Provider Zone showcases universities and technical institutions, allowing students to explore and apply for degree programmes on the spot.
Meanwhile, the Skills Experience Zone offers hands-on demonstrations in carpentry, electrical work and information technology, giving visitors the chance to experience practical training in high-demand trades.
Over 1,000 job opportunities and 500 educational courses are expected to be featured throughout the event. The Ministry has also introduced a new Higher Education Management System portal, enabling participants to register and apply for courses in real time.
The Vara Expo represents a major step towards integrating digital innovation with career development and skill-building, reinforcing the Government’s efforts to cultivate a competent, future-ready Maldivian workforce.
