The groundbreaking ceremony for the Darul Arqam Waqf building was held on Thursday.

The ceremony was initiated by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed and attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, along with several ministers and senior officials from the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.

The construction of the building has been awarded to Rasheed Carpentry and Construction (RCC) at a cost of MVR 39.5 million, with a completion period of 540 days. The Darul Arqam will be a 12-storey structure featuring basement and ground-floor parking, a first-floor reception, and modern facilities throughout.

A conference hall will be established on the second floor, while the remaining floors will house offices, meeting rooms, and prayer rooms. The rooftop will serve as an open terrace. The building is expected to generate MVR 10 million in annual revenue.

During the ceremony, Minister Dr Shaheem expressed gratitude to President Dr Muizzu, noting his prioritisation of the Maldives’ future and Islamic services.

In addition to Darul Arqam, a Waqf building dedicated to the Holy Quran will be constructed in Malé, with another planned for Hulhumalé. Similar Waqf buildings will also be developed in Kulhudhuffushi City, Fuvahmulah City, Addu City, and Thinadhoo City.
