A total of 61 sports infrastructure projects that were pending at the start of the current Administration have now been completed, following a nationwide effort to revive stalled development works across the sector.

When President Dr Mohamed Muizzu assumed office, many projects initiated by the previous administration had either halted or progressed at a minimal pace. Sports was among the areas most affected, with several football grounds and recreational facilities left incomplete. Delays were primarily linked to contractors not receiving timely payments, resulting in prolonged project standstills.

The current Administration provided the financial space required to complete the long-delayed facilities, enabling construction to move forward by resolving payment backlogs and streamlining project management.

The Government has also expanded its development pipeline. So far, 352 sports infrastructure projects have been contracted and handed over to various companies, with work currently underway on 60 active sites. A further 33 projects were completed in 2025, supporting the Administration’s goal of expanding sports access nationwide.

Improving sports infrastructure is essential to fostering a healthier society, with facilities intended to support both physical and mental wellbeing through recreation, structured activity and community engagement. The Government maintains that its ongoing efforts in the sector reflect a commitment to delivering long-term, accessible resources for communities across the nation.
