The Maldives Immigration has detained several additional individuals during a targeted operation led by the multi-agency task force established to identify and apprehend undocumented foreign nationals in the country.

According to Immigration, the latest operation involved raids on three cafés in Hulhumalé, where seven undocumented migrants were arrested. Similar operations are being carried out across Malé and the Greater Malé Region as part of wider measures to curb illegal residence and unregistered employment.

In recent years, thousands of undocumented migrants have been deported as part of Government efforts to improve labour market regulation and strengthen national security. The task force has also disrupted several informal networks and illegal businesses allegedly operated by undocumented foreigners.

In addition, ongoing efforts include coordination with the authorities to identify Maldivians and foreign nationals involved in operating illegal businesses, with necessary enforcement measures expected to follow.

Immigration emphasises that operations will continue as the Government works to regularise the labour sector, protect lawful workers, and maintain public safety.
