The Maldives Police Service has partnered with five key organisations to host the upcoming Cyber Expo 2024, an event dedicated to raising awareness about cybersecurity and fostering a safer digital environment.
The agreement was signed at a ceremony held at the Iskandar Building, with Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau representing the police service.
The five partners include Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Maldives Islamic Bank, Public Service Media (PSM), Dhiraagu, and Parkside.
Senior officials represented their respective organizations:
- Hussain Naufal, Deputy Chief Operating Officer of MTCC
- Ahmed Riza, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Islamic Bank
- Mohamed Saeed, Managing Director of PSM
- Ismail Rasheed, Managing Director of Dhiraagu
- Ali Thaufeeg, Owner of Parkside
Scheduled to take place from December 10 to 12 at Hulhumale’ Central Park, the Cyber Expo 2024 will feature participation from Government institutions, private companies, and technical experts.
The event aims to educate the public on the importance of cybersecurity and promote collaborative efforts to combat cybercrime.
The Police highlighted the urgent need for such initiatives, given the increasing prevalence of cybercrime. In line with this, an amendment to the Maldives Penal Code has been proposed to strengthen measures against cyber-related offences.
With its focus on public engagement and cross-sector collaboration, the Cyber Expo 2024 is expected to be a significant step towards building a secure and resilient digital landscape in the Maldives.
