Malé Water and Sewerage Company’s (MWSC) Managing Director, Abdul Matheen Mohamed, has announced that the water network connecting Hulhumalé and Malé is expected to be completed early next year.

Speaking on MMTV’s Bodu Khabaru programme, Matheen shared the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance water services in the region. He explained that since taking over the management of MWSC, his top priority has been ensuring the completion of the water network to guarantee an uninterrupted water supply, particularly during emergencies.

Matheen also outlined key initiatives aimed at improving water services, including plans to double the water storage capacity in Hulhumalé and increase water production rates by 30 per cent within the coming year. These upgrades are part of MWSC’s commitment to providing continuous and affordable water services to the public.

In addition to infrastructure improvements, MWSC is focusing on digitising its services to enhance customer convenience. A new online portal for service applications will be launched this December, allowing customers to apply for services more easily. Matheen emphasised that this digital transition will provide greater convenience and accessibility for users.

The company has also introduced smart meters and automated systems for water connection and disconnection. These advancements have significantly improved efficiency and reduced operational costs, as employees no longer need to visit households for meter readings. Matheen described this past year as a particularly successful year for MWSC.
