The Male’ City Council has announced plans to demolish the existing stage at Alimas Carnival and construct a modern replacement, inviting interested parties to submit bids.

Applications are now open, with the deadline set for December 16, 2024. The bidding process will take place on the same day at the council’s office.

The project encompasses multiple responsibilities, requiring applicants to handle the demolition, waste disposal, and full construction of the new stage using their own resources. Eligible bidders include Maldivian companies, partnerships, and entities with local investment and commercial permits, ensuring the project aligns with local economic priorities.

In detailing the contractor's responsibilities, the council emphasised that the chosen party must not only execute the construction but also develop the stage concept, obtain all necessary permits, and produce detailed engineering and architectural drawings. The scope of work includes completing all structural, finishing, electrical, and plumbing tasks.

This initiative is part of the council’s plan to modernise the Alimas Carnival area. During a council meeting in July, Mayor Azim highlighted the deteriorating state of the current structures, raising concerns about potential safety risks to the public.

Originally inaugurated in 2004 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of Majeedhiya School, Alimas Carnival had served as a central venue for musical performances and political rallies. However, years of wear and tear have left the area in need of significant upgrades, prompting this redevelopment effort.

With the project, the Male’ City Council aims to revitalise the Carnival area, ensuring it remains a safe and functional hub for community and cultural events.
