Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage Adam Naseer Ibrahim has announced that practical work on the Maldives’ first interactive immersive museum will begin next month.

Speaking at a press conference held at the President’s Office, the Minister said the project marks the first time such a museum is being developed in the Maldives. He added that an agreement for the project is scheduled to be signed in January, after which implementation will commence.

“Most of the preparatory work has now been completed. This is a major undertaking and something that has never been done in the Maldives before. It required extensive planning and documentation,” the Minister said.

Immersive museums are designed using modern technology to allow visitors to actively participate in exhibitions, rather than simply observe them. Such museums are becoming increasingly popular internationally.

The interactive immersive museum will offer a range of experiences for visitors, with activities planned for both daytime and nighttime.

The Minister’s remarks come amid efforts by the Government to modernise cultural education. President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has previously emphasised the importance of updating the teaching of the Dhivehi language, culture, and history through the use of modern technology, noting that other languages and subjects are increasingly taught using advanced digital tools.
