A new reading nook has been opened at Hiyaa Park in Hulhumalé Phase II, offering residents and visitors a dedicated area to read books within the park grounds.

The initiative, introduced by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), aims to encourage community engagement, promote reading culture, and enhance the liveability of the area surrounding the Hiyaa housing towers.

According to HDC, the reading nook features a collection of books suitable for all age groups, including materials in both Dhivehi and English. The selection includes children’s books for ages 1 to 10, as well as titles related to Dhivehi language, cooking, and lifestyle. Visitors are allowed to pick up books from the space and read them anywhere within the park, provided the books are returned before leaving the premises.

The nook will operate daily from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., offering a quiet recreational outlet for the thousands of families living in the Hiyaa Towers and residents who frequent the park. HDC stated that the initiative is to enhance public facilities in Hulhumalé Phase II and create environments that support social interaction, relaxation and overall community well-being.
