Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has congratulated the Maldives National Men’s Futsal Team on their historic victory at the first-ever SAFF Futsal Championship.
In a message posted on social media, the Vice President praised the team for making the nation proud with their achievement, describing the win as a source of inspiration for young athletes across the country.
The Maldives secured the historic championship crown at the inaugural SAFF Futsal Championship after defeating Bhutan 3–1 in their fifth match, played at the Nonthaburi Stadium in Thailand. The victory extended the team’s unbeaten streak and lifted them to 15 points from five matches.
The tournament, organised by the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), marked the first-ever regional futsal championship and was hosted on neutral ground in Thailand. A total of seven nations, the Maldives, India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, competed in a league format, with each team accumulating points across their fixtures.
The Maldives’ triumph not only highlights their place in history as the first champions of the SAFF Futsal Championship.
