Maldives has surpassed last year’s tourist arrivals on December 8, 2024.

The Minister of Tourism, Ibrahim Faisal, announced on Sunday that the Maldives has officially surpassed its 2023 arrival figures of 1,878,543.

Looking back, 2023 saw a 12.8 per cent increase in tourist arrivals compared to 2022. This year, the growth trajectory has continued, with an 8.9 per cent rise from 2023 so far.

February 2024 emerged as the peak month for arrivals, with a record 217,392 tourists visiting the Maldives—an increase from February 2022, which saw 177,915 visitors.

In terms of market contributions, China has taken the lead in 2024, accounting for 13.5 per cent of arrivals, followed by Russia and the United Kingdom. This marks a shift from 2023, where India dominated as the top source market, followed by Russia and China.

The Minister of Tourism attributed this achievement to industry-led initiatives and emphasised the Ministry's commitment to reaching the 2024 target of 2 million arrivals.
