President observes military display by MNDF

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, accompanied by First Lady Madam Sajida Mohamed, observed a spectacular military display hosted by the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) at Republic Square to commemorate Victory Day.

Upon their arrival, the President and First Lady were warmly welcomed by Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon and Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy. The ceremony commenced with a formal military salute, followed by a video presentation that illustrated the progression and achievements of the Maldives military over the years.

The highlight of the event featured an array of impressive demonstrations by the MNDF, showcasing operations from the Special Boat Squadron, underwater demolition capabilities, Special Forces tactics, rappelling exercises, and field counter-attack drills. The display also highlighted the diverse capabilities of the Air Force, Maritime, and Land Forces, reflecting the strength and readiness of the Maldivian armed forces.

As part of the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu presented berets to the graduates of the Special Boat Squadron and Special Forces courses, recognising their dedication and training. Additionally, the inauguration of the Special Boat Squadron took place, followed by an oath-taking led by Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Ahmed Ghiyas, where both Special Boat Squadron and Special Forces members pledged their allegiance to the nation.

The event wrapped up with a group photograph featuring President Dr Muizzu, Defence Minister Ghassan, and senior military officers, symbolising a united commitment to national defence and honouring the sacrifices made by the Maldives military throughout its history.
