Land reclamation works at Haa Alifu Dhidhdhoo have reached a major milestone, with 78 hectares reclaimed so far, representing 70 per cent completion of the overall project.

The project, which is being implemented by Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), aims to support airport development as well as housing and related infrastructure needs in Dhidhdhoo. In total, the project involves the reclamation of 112 hectares of land.

Reclamation works commenced on 5 January 2026 and are progressing steadily, with large-scale operations currently underway.

The project is being carried out using Leiv Eiriksson, one of the world’s largest trailing suction hopper dredgers. The vessel has a hopper capacity of 46,000 cubic metres, enabling reclamation works to be conducted efficiently and at a rapid pace.
