Vice President Uz Hussain Mohamed Latheef has called for increased adoption of modern technology in the Maldives' fishing industry, describing it as vital for the sector's advancement.

The Vice President made this statement via his official X account on the occasion of National Fishermen's Day, highlighting the industry's position as the cornerstone of the Maldivian economy.

In his message, he acknowledged the arduous work undertaken by the nation's fishermen and offered well wishes for the industry's continued success and prosperity.

In line with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu's pledge, the Government has implemented arrangements for fishermen to receive payment within 48 hours of delivering their catch – this initiative is part of ongoing efforts to identify and resolve challenges faced by the fishing community.

National Fishermen's Day, observed annually on December 10 in the Maldives, serves as a platform to recognise the fishing community's contributions and identify ongoing challenges in the sector.
