President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has emphasised that recognising and respecting the determination of Maldivian fishermen is a national obligation, highlighting their unwavering commitment to their profession despite challenging conditions.

The President shared this message via his official X account on National Fishermen's Day, acknowledging the fishermen who work tirelessly across vast oceans, facing adverse weather conditions both day and night.

This statement reinforces the Government's commitment to the fishing sector, which has recently seen the implementation of significant policy changes, including the 48-hour payment guarantee for catch delivery – a key Presidential pledge.

Maldives marks National Fishermen's Day each December 10 as a platform to recognise the fishing community's contributions and address sector challenges.
