The Maldives Customs Service has established its Southern Regional Head Office in Addu City Maradhoo, marking a significant expansion of customs operations in the southern region.
Minister of Homeland Security and Technology Ali Ihusaan and Commissioner General of Customs Fathimath Dhiyana inaugurated the facility this morning.
The new office aims to strengthen and expand customs services to various ports and harbours in the region, with a primary focus on documentation work. Minister Ihusaan emphasised the importance of delivering people-centric service, particularly noting Addu City's status as a major import hub requiring efficient cargo clearance.
Plans are underway to enhance the office's capabilities beyond regional documentation.
"We intend to make this office one that can provide some customs services throughout Maldives," Minister Ihsaan stated during the inauguration ceremony.
Commissioner General Dhiyana highlighted the office's role in strengthening regional customs operations. The facility features modern amenities, including classrooms for staff training, a conference hall and an accommodation block.
The establishment of this office represents a move towards decentralising customs services, which have traditionally been concentrated in the capital, Male.
