North Henveiru MP Ahmed Aifan has stated that Malé City Mayor Adam Azim continues to implement the land use plan prepared during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tenure as Mayor of Malé City.
He made the remarks while speaking on the People’s National Congress (PNC) campaign programme Dhiveheenge Raajje, broadcast through local media outlets.
Aifan said the most comprehensive land use plan ever developed by a council in the Maldives was formulated under President Dr Muizzu’s leadership during his time as Mayor of Malé.
He said the plan was prepared following extensive consultations with residents across Malé’s wards, including youth, women and non-governmental organisations. The initiative, he noted, was shaped through public input and wide community engagement.
“That was a complete land use plan prepared after meeting residents of Malé’s neighbourhoods and consulting various groups. Even today, implementation is based on that plan. There is not a single initiative introduced by Adam Azim or the MDP,” Aifan said.
He added that Azim cannot deny this and alleged that attempts to obscure the facts would not be accepted by the public. Aifan further stated that Malé City residents recognise President Dr Muizzu as a leader capable of addressing their concerns.
Referring to the redevelopment and reopening of Galolhu City Park, which had remained unused and deteriorating for years, Aifan said opposition figures have attempted to present the project as a new achievement of the current Mayor. However, he claimed the initiative was originally launched during President Dr Muizzu’s term as Mayor, in collaboration with council members elected under the PNC during the fourth council term.
