Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s participation in door-to-door campaign activities reflects an approach to governance centred on public engagement and consultation.
Speaking to MMTV during the door-to-door event in Central Machangolhi constituency, where the President joined People’s National Congress (PNC) candidates contesting in the local council and WDC elections, the minister said the President has consistently sought public views in decision-making.
Minister Nazim said the President’s approach to governance is shaped by community engagement, noting that President Dr Muizzu had adopted a similar approach during his tenure as Mayor of Malé City by formulating policies based on public input. He said the President believes understanding public needs and priorities requires direct engagement with communities.
The minister also criticised the current administration of Malé City Council, saying development plans formulated under President Dr Muizzu’s tenure as mayor had not been implemented. He attributed this to what he described as a lack of clear policy direction and said delays in implementation had affected efforts to address key issues faced by residents, including housing, road congestion, substance abuse and expatriate-related concerns.
He also said the President’s visits to households in the Central Machangolhi constituency and meetings with residents during the campaign were part of efforts to remain engaged with the public, adding that such outreach has continued outside of election periods. Minister Nazim said community engagement during the campaign period also contributes to shaping future policy directions.
According to the minister, work is currently underway to formulate a long-term development plan covering the next 20 years, with Malé City expected to play a central role. He said addressing long-standing issues in the capital remains a key focus of the Administration’s planning efforts.
