Foreign Minister arrives in Geneva for UN Human Rights Council session

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel has arrived in Geneva to participate in the High-Level Week of the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC).
In posts shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was stated that the Foreign Minister will address the General Debate during the High-Level Week and hold bilateral meetings with counterparts on the sidelines of the session. The Ministry said the Maldives will continue to engage actively at the Council as part of its commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights.
The Foreign Minister said discussions during the visit will focus on measures to further strengthen the promotion and protection of human rights, as well as on broader cooperation with partner countries. He said the Maldives will work towards the successful outcome of the session and remain engaged throughout the proceedings.
The Maldives is currently serving as a member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2023–2025 term. This marks the third time the country has served on the Council.
