President appoints Uz Rifath Abdulla as Elections Commission member

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Uz Rifath Abdulla as a member of the Elections Commission.
Uz Rifath Abdulla took the oath of office and signed the declaration of membership at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on 23 February. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Uz Mohamed Saleem, after which the President formally presented the letter of appointment.
The appointment was made in accordance with Articles 167(a) and 168(b) of the Constitution, and Article 4(a) of the Elections Commission Act.
Uz Rifath Abdulla previously served as Deputy Director of the Legal Department at the Elections Commission and most recently worked as Legal Counsel at Hajj Corporation. The appointment fills a vacancy following the expiry of the term of former commission member Mohamed Zahir.
The Elections Commission is responsible for administering and overseeing elections and referendums in the Maldives. Current members of the Commission include President Mohamed Zahid, Vice President Abdul Rahman Salah Rasheed, and members Hassan Zakariyya and Abdul Haseeb Ismail.
