Police recover over MVR 465,000 in stolen property over 48 hours

Police recovered more than MVR 465,000 in stolen property during operations carried out across the Greater Malé Region over a 48-hour period, according to statistics released by the Maldives Police Service.
Figures published by Henveiru, Galolhu and Maafannu Police Stations for 21–22 February 2026 show that Galolhu Police recorded the highest recovered amount, totalling MVR 365,099 in connection with theft and robbery cases. Henveiru Police recovered MVR 65,000, while Maafannu Police recovered MVR 34,720 during the same period.
During the 48-hour period, police recorded a total of 92 incidents across the three jurisdictions, with Galolhu recording the highest number of cases at 35, followed by Maafannu with 33 cases and Henveiru with 24 cases. A total of six arrests were made, including three in Galolhu, two in Maafannu and one in Henveiru.
Police carried out extensive street operations as part of crime prevention efforts in the capital. Over 550 individuals were stopped and questioned across the three policing areas, while more than 2,200 locations were checked. In addition, Maafannu Police attended 112 hotspot locations during the 48-hour period as part of targeted patrol operations.
Foot patrols exceeded 88 hours across the three jurisdictions, alongside traffic engagements and house and shop visits. Police also reported multiple community engagement activities during the period, aimed at strengthening cooperation with residents and business owners.
The Maldives Police Service said such operations will continue as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen public safety and prevent criminal activity in the Greater Malé Region.
