Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Resources Ahmed Shiyam has said President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s actions demonstrates sincerity in governance, while accusing the opposition of seeking to create division through criticism of the President’s actions.

The remarks were made during the People’s National Congress (PNC) door-to-door campaign in the North Galolhu constituency, where the President took part in outreach activities. Speaking MMTV, Minister Shiyam said the President continues to meet with residents to hear concerns and engage with communities, including outside of election periods.

Minister Shiyam said the decision of provision of allowances to residents of Malé Hiya and Sinamalé housing flats, were made following consultations with residents on challenges they face. He said the President has adopted a practice of engaging directly with the public, adding that policies and development plans are reviewed in line with feedback received from communities.

The Minister said housing is a major concern for residents of Malé City due to congestion and rising living costs, adding that people expect governments to introduce measures to ease daily hardships. He said such concessions could have been provided under previous administrations but were not, and accused the opposition of misrepresenting the President’s actions, which he said were taken in good faith.

Minister Shiyam also said the ruling party’s performance in securing a number of seats uncontested reflects public confidence in the President’s leadership.
