The third phase of the road development project in Thinadhoo City has been awarded to Road Development Corporation (RDC) on 25 February.
The contract was signed on behalf of the Government by Minister of Construction, Housing, and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib while RDC’s Managing Director Ibrahim Nazeem signed on behalf of the State-owned corporation.
Under Phase Three of the project, a total of 50 roads in Thinadhoo City are set to be developed. The scope of work includes asphalt surfacing as well as the installation of drainage systems aimed at improving road conditions and mitigating flooding issues. The project is valued at MVR 341 million and is scheduled to be completed within 1,440 days.
Providing details on the project, Minister Dr Muthtalib said the works will cover both established residential areas and newly developed settlements in Thinadhoo, noting that the initiative is intended to bring road infrastructure in the city up to modern standards.
North Thinadhoo MP Saudulla Hilmy also welcomed the project, highlighting the challenges residents face due to flooding on several roads. He said improved drainage and road upgrades are expected to ease long-standing concerns among the public and called for timely implementation of the works.
