Fenaka Corporation has confirmed that electricity supply to Haa Dhaalu Nolhivaranfaru has been fully restored following a prolonged outage caused by a technical fault at the island’s powerhouse.
The State-owned utility provider said power was restored to Nolhivaranfaru at around 2:30 a.m. after engineers rectified faults affecting one of the generators at the island’s Fenaka powerhouse. The outage had disrupted electricity supply for several hours on 24 February.
Fenaka said the interruption occurred after the island’s main generator experienced technical difficulties, requiring it to be temporarily taken out of service. During the outage, electricity was supplied on a rotational basis using the remaining generator, while essential services, including the health centre, were maintained through backup power.
In Addu City, Fenaka said power supply issues that emerged at the beginning of Ramadan due to an engine fault have now been resolved. However, further disruptions were reported in Maradhoo due to a separate cable-related issue. The corporation said work is underway to connect an alternative cable to restore full supply to the affected area.
Fenaka said temporary measures are also being implemented in Addu City, including bringing an additional generator into operation locally and dispatching another generator from Malé to strengthen capacity and improve service reliability.
The company noted that electricity demand typically rises during the month of Ramadan and said steps are being taken to maintain service continuity during periods of increased load. Fenaka added that additional generators have been deployed to several islands in the atolls as part of efforts to support stable electricity supply nationwide.
Fenaka provides electricity services to 156 islands across the Maldives.
