Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) cleared a total of 5,642 freight tonnes of perishable, containerised and conventional cargo on 24 February 2026, according to daily clearance statistics.

MPL said the volume cleared during the day covered 275 consignments, reflecting continued high cargo handling activity at the Malé Commercial Harbour. The company said perishable food items continue to be prioritised to ensure timely distribution, particularly during the Ramadan period when import volumes typically increase.

Among perishable goods cleared on the day, chicken eggs recorded the highest volume with 4,909 packages processed through the port. Other food items cleared included 3,044 packages of onions, 2,877 packages of watermelons, 1,543 packages of bananas, 1,440 packages of pineapples and 836 packages of potatoes.

Additional perishable items handled during the day included 517 packages of tomatoes, 447 packages of cabbage, 271 packages of pumpkin, 155 packages of sweet melon, 90 packages of green chilli and 75 packages of rock melon. Smaller quantities of other produce such as honey melon, beetroot, cucumber, sweet corn, mango, passion fruit, brinjal, sweet potato, bottle gourd, pomegranate, papaya and lemons were also cleared.

MPL said operational arrangements remain in place to manage increased cargo volumes during Ramadan, including dedicated facilities and extended handling capacity to facilitate the clearance of perishable goods. The company said it continues to coordinate with relevant agencies to ensure smooth cargo movement and minimise delays in distribution to markets.
